PRB Safe Home Program

The PRB-Safe Home program is a parent/guardian pledge program designed to help create a safe environment for children and increase communication between Safe Home parents/guardians.

One of its key missions is to raise awareness about alcohol and other drug and substance abuse among young people, and to encourage parents to join together in addressing the problem. Rather than worrying alone, parents can unite to do something positive and proactive.

In the most recent Minnesota Student Survey (2007) Pine River-Backus students reported that:

  • 10% of sixth graders reported drinking alcohol at least once during the past 12 months whereas 61.5% of 12th graders reported drinking at least once during the past 12 months. Where did they get it… 60% of 9th graders said family members.
  • 12% of 6th graders reported alcohol use by any family member repeatedly caused family health, job, or legal problems.
  • 12% of 6th graders reported they were 10 years or younger when they had their first alcholic drink, whilw 16% of 12th graders reported they were 10 years or younger when they had their first alcoholic drink.
